Frequently Asked Questions about Razor Bumps
(Pseudofolliculitis Barbae):

What are razor bumps?

Pseudofolliculitis Barbae (PFB), razor bumps, or ingrown hairs are a common condition that result from shaving, tweezing or waxing coarse, curly hair. Pointed and sharp ends of the curly hairs pierce and grow back into the skin as the hairs grow, causing inflammation and scarring. This condition most commonly occurs in the beard area, but can occur in any hair bearing area with curly hairs.

Is there a cure for razor bumps?

The ultimate "cure" for razor bumps is to simply let the hair grow, although this generally is not practical. Many treatment options are now available through our office including safe and permanent laser hair reduction, specially formulated prescription products offered exclusively at Aesthetic Dermatology, and patient-specific treatments with serums administered with our new SilkPeel DermalInfusion microdermabrasion system.
